Mayor of Berne

«‹A child sponsorship? It's not worth it. What's the use of supporting one child? And in the end the child won't see any money anyway.› Like that would only talk someone who has never heard about Children's Care Emmaus. For 50 years, this relief organizaton has been demonstrating how children's care ideally works: With sponsorships for training support and investing in poverty-stricken communities around the world. Nevertheless, Children's Care Emmaus works with a minimum of employees in Switzerland. Most of the work is done by volunteers.

Sponsorships represent an ideal way to help directly. The godchild can thus experience care and attention. Alike it is also a rewarding experience for the godmother or the godfather: With a small contribution the life of a fellow human being can sustainably be improved. It is not uncommon that an intercontinental exchange develops and sometimes it even happens that one gets to know each other personally.

Children's Care Emmaus also supports projects in India – a country that is hit by a second wave of Covid like no other. The economic collapse after the first wave is now being followed by the health meltdown, which represents a social catastrophe. Support like offered by Children's Care Emmaus for 50 years is therefore more important than ever.»

Martin Schibler and Hanspeter Haldi
Management of Schibler + Haldi AG, Frauenkappelen

«The company Schibler + Haldi AG was founded by us in 1991. During a village talk we got to know Mrs. Renaud, President of Children's Care Emmaus. She drew our attention to self-made greeting cards that children in the Third World have drawn themselves and which are then sold in Switzerland. For several years we are sending our customers Christmas cards which are very much appreciated. This way we support a relief organization which does things properly.»

Deacon and former parish leader, roman catholic parish St. Marien, Thun

«We are all called to stand by one another and to offer assistance. Everyone with what was given or entrusted to him or to her by god. We, the parish of St. Marien, Thun, therefore support Children's Care Emmaus, too. Because it helps where we cannot help all alone.»

Bernhard Pulver
Former director of education in the canton of Berne

«One of the most important tasks if not even the most important one of a society is to provide for its children good starting and general conditions. As educational director I work for them every day.

Fortunately, these general conditions in favour of our youth in Switzerland are good or at least in most cases. In many other parts of the world this looks quite differently, above all in developing countries. I am, therefore, glad to say that Children's Care Emmaus is committed here. It aims to alleviate the misery of children from the poorest backgrounds and to give them a better start in life. With its engagement Children's Care Emmaus is not only caring for the weakest among the weak, but also helping sustainably. Whoever well starts in life has good prospects of later being able to lead a dignified life – and be in a position to reimburse the society something.

For the benefit of the underprivileged children, I wish Children's Care Emmaus all the best in getting off to a flying start after its reorganization. Thank you very much for giving this institution your support.»

Markus Widmeier
Former teacher, Campus Muristalden, Berne

«In the subject life sciences we often dealt with social injustice and poverty as well as lacking education as the causes. My students asked what we could do to alleviate these problems. How should we, as a school class, be able to implement 'help for self-help'? And at this point we came up to the idea of approaching Children's Care Emmaus for a personal child sponsorship. The class teacher was responsible for the punctual payment of the contributions (about CHF 2.00 month/pupil) and kept a sponsorship booklet with all the receipts and the letters of our sponsored child. We got also involved in the sale of cards with original drawings by godchildren from all over the world. This way we had for many years a joint social project that promoted class cohesion and a sense of responsibility towards disadvantaged people.»
